Metasearch brands Kayak and Wanderu have partnered to give consumers access to more transportation options via their respective platforms.
Boston-based Wanderu, which allows travelers to compare bus and train tickets across North America and Europe, will now incorporate Kayak-powered flights into its search engine.
The integration, which is in beta mode, will list flights directly alongside bus and train options, letting consumers search more than 800,000 bus routes, 1,340,000 train routes and 26,000 plane routes in one place.
On Kayak, individual bus and train options will not appear alongside flight results; rather, if a user is searching for short-distance routes, Kayak will surface an option to search bus and train alternatives on Wanderu’s site.
Kayak says it will gain 500 alternative travel options through the Wanderu partnership, and this will be the first time the Booking Holdings-owned platform has featured bus routes.

“Ever since we launched Wanderu back in 2013, our ultimate goal has been to develop a one-stop shop for travelers, where they can easily find and compare all available travel options to get where they need to go. With the addition of flights, we are one giant step closer to making that a reality,” says Polina Raygorodskaya, co-founder and CEO of Wanderu.
“I’ve always found it frustrating to jump from tab to tab and manually compare flights to bus and train options. I believe that having them all in the same search results, and being able to filter based on factors like price, departure time, trip duration and amenities, will make it much easier for travelers to find the journey that fits their needs in the best possible way.”
Last month, Raygorodskaya joined PhocusWire editor in chief Kevin May and Mozio co-founder and CEO David Litwak for the How I Got Here podcast; listen to the full episode, in which she discusses the formation and evolution of Wanderu, below.
