Peer-to-peer car-sharing marketplace Turo is partnering with Hopper to make its 350,000 active vehicles available for booking on the online travel agency's app.
The partnership isn’t Turo’s first. The company has had a similar deal with Kayak since 2021 to make its cars available in that metasearch platform. Deals with Capital One and Delta Airlines provide rewards to those companies’ loyalty members who book with Turo.
“At Turo, we want to be wherever travel decisions are taking place, and partnering with Hopper is an obvious way to achieve this goal,” said Turo’s chief product officer Tom Wang. “Partnering with Hopper expands Turo’s reach and makes booking the perfect car for any type of trip more convenient than ever before.”

Turo reports that it has 175,000 hosts in more than 12,000 cities across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France and Australia. Of its hosts, 85% are deemed consumer – as opposed to professional – hosts, who list two or fewer vehicles.
Turo filed for an IPO last year before market volatility prompted it to tap the brakes on going public. Research by Phocuswright later that year showed the company had reason for optimism as the rental car market continued to build back from COVID-19.
“They remain small compared with other major players [in the rental market], but the low overhead could provide a foundation for more financially healthy operations than their legacy competitors,” Phocuswright wrote in U.S. Car Rental Market Report 2021-2025.
The company has continued to update its filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rather than withdrawing it, making it possible the IPO could still happen. Wang told PhocusWire he couldn’t comment on the matter at this time.
Hopper general manager for ground transport Ani Malkani said the company is excited to see how its customers respond to the new offering.
“We are constantly seeking new ways to enhance the travel booking experience for our customers, which is why we are thrilled to partner with Turo,” Malkani said. “The quality and convenience of their product aligns with our mission to create the most customer-centric marketplace for travel in the world.”
