California-based startup Inspirock has raised seed funding of $3 million with India's MakeMyTrip as its main investor.
The founders of the itinerary planning site, Anoop Goyal and Prakash Sikchi, and angel investors also participated in the round for the startup which was founded in 2012.
Inspirock says it uses machine learning and big data to act as a smart trip planner creating itineraries based on personal interests and drawing on tours and activities in 6,000 locations.
A month ago during a quarterly earnings call, MakeMyTrip announced it had acquired, through its innovation fund, an 18% stake in Inspirock saying the investment, alongside its acquisition of mygola, were part of strategy to create higher customer engagement in the trip planning stage.
Deep Kalra, chief executive of MakeMyTrip joins the Inspirock board.
