The concept of
rentals or alternative accommodations in travel used to refer – almost exclusively
– to homes and apartments.
But in recent
years, the sector has grown to encompass many other types of lodging, and
certainly since the start of the pandemic, one of the hottest kinds is
the accommodation-transportation solution known as a recreational vehicle.
Whether that’s
because of concerns about safety and privacy – or maybe a heightened sense of
adventure coming out of lockdowns – travelers have taken RVs on the road in
record numbers.
RVShare is one of
the peer-to-peer RV rental marketplaces that has benefitted from this surge in
interest, with a record-setting volume of bookings and a $100 million
fundraising round in October 2020.
In the latest PhocusWire
Pulse: Rentals On The Rise online event, we talked with RVShare’s
vice president of product, Melissa Fortenberry, to discuss how the company is growing its
inventory, strategies for distribution and customer acquisition and how it is
working with partners.
