Axel Hefer knows that to navigate the coronavirus, continue to grow his company Trivago and stay on top of new technology is like playing a "game of chess" every day.
On the one hand, there are the partnerships that a brand such as Trivago can establish and rely on, but elsewhere there are the threats of a search giant like Google to contend with.
There is also the ongoing threat to many facets of the industry that climate change and a drive to more sustainable travel will continue to impose.
And what of metasearch itself, as a concept? Is it in a position whereby it has reached its full potential and the major players, including Trivago, are in solid enough positions to consider it "sewn up" and beyond significant disruption?
