Global retail bank, payments and shopping provider Klarna has acquired online trip planner Inspirock for an undisclosed sum.
With Inspirock, which uses artificial intelligence and local expertise to create personalized itineraries for travelers, Klarna’s 90 million users will be able to plan and shop for a trip and pay for it in installments through the Klarna app.
Klarna says that using Inspirock’s technology will save its customers hours of planning for a typical vacation.
“By bringing Inspirock to Klarna, we are bringing the best of Klarna’s smooth customer experience to the travel sector,” says Klarna co-founder and CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski.

“For customers, this makes the whole journey from inspiration to planning and preparing for a trip simpler, less stressful and more fun, while enabling our retail partners to better reach and engage with their audiences by offering more personalized content. It’s a natural extension of the benefits Klarna brings to payments and shopping.”
With Inspirock’s technology, Klarna will also be able to offer additional advertising and marketing opportunities to its network of more than 250,000 retail partners, including Expedia Group, H&M and Peloton, helping them reach high-intent shoppers with more curated content.
Klarna’s marketing solutions include comparison shopping, an AI-driven styling engine, a virtual shopping platform and an influencer marketing and measurement platform.
Founded in 2012, California-based Inspirock raised a seed funding round of $3 million in 2015, led by India’s MakeMyTrip. In July of this year, Skyscanner announced it was using Inspirock’s technology to test a personalized road trip service.
Founded in 2005, Klarna is one of the most highly valued private fintechs with a valuation of $45.6 billion.
